1987 Ev 90HP. Mine is not. If it should spinning what could I have done wrong when changing the impeller ?

You might still have it in gear. Pull up or push down your shift rod. You should feel three distinct clunks as it goes through the gears, F N R. Of course I am assuming that you still have the lower unit off.

When in neutral, yes the prop should spin easily. When in forward or reverse, it should not. There should be some resistance due to the friction of the water pump impeller blades rubbing on the walls of the housing.

I've pulled that 3 times this past weekend so not a problem. I did not know the rod pops up and down. I did see that it spins. I don't want to force it so should it pop into the 3 positions pretty easily ? All the way UP is forward ?

Even with a new water pump, when in NEUTRAL it seems the prop should spin without resistance since it is disengaged from the driveshaft, correct ???
