I have and old 1976 fiberglass boat, with a merc 115 on it, I'm worried that the transom may be in bad shape, how can I tell and when should I start worring. the only reason I suspect it being bad is just assumption based on post I have read here. what should I do to feel warm and fuzzy and not worry anymore grant it money is very tight Thomas

texas,

Lift your engine up all the way. Push up and down on the skeg and see if the transom flexes.

well now that you mention it, I have notice it flexing a tad when I put it into reverse.. I have actually hung on the motor, pu tall my whieght on it and not movement from the motor or the transom, but I will try what you suggested
