Better answer the phone.
<< The Chicago trial of newspaper magnate Conrad Black, which is bogged down in fiscal fecal, drew an aside recently that was downright juicy.
It seems Veep **** Cheney's recent trip to Chicago caused a bit of a disturbance to the Black family, while ensconced at their upmarket hotel.
? To wit: One morning last month, Black's daughter Alana -- who was having trouble sleeping -- ignored a ringing phone and a knock at her hotel room door.
? The upshot: 10 minutes later, a man identifying himself as "hotel security" opened the door to her hotel room . . . he was followed by a cadre of men in suits and one large dog.>>
<< ? The dogshot: Shortly after returning to her bed, Alana was roused once again for a mattress check. Alana . . . "a genuine animal lover, tried to pat the dog," wrote Amiel. "Large man with dog said, 'No, he's working.' "
? The endshot: The raid was over in 10 minutes. >>
