Where are timing marks on '97 4.3LH?

All I see is a notch....no scale. Is that notch TDC, or is it the correct timing mark to line the notch in the pulley up with? Or is the scale there, and I'm just not looking at the right angle?

I put it in base timing mode, and adjusted the timing to line up the notch on the pulley with the other notch. The thing was running better before....it now backfires occasionally.

Thanks

should be a scale on the harmonic balancer behind the big crank pully.Maybe it was painted or is dirty, try cleaning it up to see marks.

When the line on the balancer is aligned with the notch on the timing cover, you have set the timing at TDC.

Setting timing on these engines requirs a timing light with an advance dial built in.

Set the knob on the timing light to the specified timing setting, then, with engine running, line the marks up.
