Grasso stepped down from his job as chairman of the NYSE. Not a bad gig if you can get it. Grasso received $140 million in compensation and pension payments. Thats the kind of job I need. :p

Yeah, I think I could handle that job, and I'd do it for $100 million and NO pension :D

I can somewhat comprehend if you invent a product or start up a company but when someone is brought in to lead a corperation for this kind of money it just baffles me. I have met a few people who have multi million dollar income's and from my observation they are rather ordinary folks.

Guess my point is if you start a company by all means you should be allowed to enjoy the fruits of your labor. But if you are brought in from the outside to lead one of these giants your greatest accomplishment was landing the job

Hey Soulwinner, stop bringing our compensation packages down...If the bosses hear you undercutting everyone, we won't be able to afford our boating!

The difference is in the risk involved. Someone like Bill Gates, for example, took a risk, built a company, and now is worth billions. Good for him. He deserves it.

Grasso, on the other hand, was more a technician and a regulator, and involved no personal risk. That is not to say he should not have been paid well, but that is excessive.

And that being said, it is the board that should be fired or resign, and not Grasso. They were the ones that authorized the money. He just accepted it.

Grasso did a great job, and I'm sure he would have taken a bit of a pay cut if asked.

I have heard reports that his salary was deferred a number of years and that resulted in a higher cumulative total.
