Where do I look for model/serial no 85hp johnson?

I am considering buying an 85hp johnson motor which looks to me to be approximatelyh late 70's to 80's at an ededucated guess. I had a brief look at the motor intg the dark by torchlight and couldn't find a manufacturers plate. Any pointers would be appreciated. Many thanks!

It will be on the outside of the port transom bracket on a 1" X 3" plate, or failing that, it will/may be on a silver, quarter-sized welch plug on the top of the port cylinder bank.
