Usually,there are 2 flat head screws.1 on the very bottom near the skeg and the other further up.When full,it should be up to the level of the top screw.Since yor gonna check it,might as well drain and replace it.

Depending on the year, there are two identical plugs on the gearcase, one above the other on the port side (left, facing transom).<br /><br />Standard large screwdriver.<br /><br />Remove lower one with a clean pan below and let a little oil out. <br /><br />If creamy or burned (look or smell), if it feels gritty or you see particulate, report here, help will come.<br /><br />If not, you need to top up the oil by inserting the oil tube in the BOTTOM hole and forcing oil until it runs out of the top hole. When it runs out of the top, relace the top plug first and then the bottom. <br /><br />Make sure the washers on the plugs are in good condition.
