Haven't taken my boat out in a LONG time and my gas in the can is about 5 months old. Where can I take it? Only about 3 gallons. I know Kregan type places sometimes take old oil, but what about gasoline?

If I only have a gallon or so I use it to feed the poison ivy growing in the back of my yard...

As long as there is no water in it,I put a little in me car once in awhile. Half gallon or so,then fill up with fresh. I paid for it I use it. No issues.

Five months old is still usable and your car will love it... Also makes great fire ant killer in very small amounts...but don't ignite it, just let the fumes penetrate the nest...

Call your city or county and see if they have a fuel recycling station. Don't pour it on the ground

I have no issues running 8 or 9 month old gasoline in my outboard or my car. I have been doing that for 30 or 40 years (at least).

Bit at a time in the lawn mower works for me.

Just burn it in the boat.

As long as the container was tightly sealed, there should be no problem using it for its intended purpose.

I just took it to the local dump and they disposed of it for me for free.

I use old gas in weed whacker and lawn mowers and I would use it in the boat. 5 months is not that old.

Heck, gas in my boat sits longer than that "every" winter.... Haven't started it yet this year, so the gas is from last Oct. Will just top it off and go, hopefully sometime soon.... :)

Most of my old gas has water in it. No way I'd put it in a lawnmower, that's just asking for more repair work, draining the mower tank, dropping the float bowl, etc.

If I don't have too much left in the 5 gal. boat can, I pour it into my chainsaw cans and mix it there. They run okay on old gas. I have a friend that dumps it into his '99 mini van. It smokes a tad, but again, it is mixed, he says it runs fine!

Re: Where do you dispose of old gasoline?

If the gas is non-oxygenated (would say "for offroad use only" at the pump), it will last for quite some time. 5 months is a long time for gas with ethanol in it(all gas is typically 10% or more ethanol these days) The issue is that when ethanol breaks down, it gums up carburators. that being said, I would not put it in your lawnmower, weed wacker etc, unless you want to risk disassembling/cleaning the carb. It might be okay diluted in your fuel injected car's 20 gallon tank, but is it worth saving the $10 worth of gas if it clogs up your injectors?

For those of you that have been doing this for 30-40 years, the gas you buy today is not the same as it was even 10 years ago. I used to manage a hardware store a few years ago, and people were constantly bringing in lawnmowers/snowblowers that wouldn't start because they had old ethanol gas in them. Holiday gas is probably the worst of them all.
