where do you mount your VHF ant*........

i have a 16 foot center console style fish boat and am refurbishing it , replacing EVERYTHING other than the hull and rub rail.....<br /><br />when time came time to mount the VHF antanae(sp), i didnt know where to mount it so i mounted it to the side of the console. i did this cause i have seen moe modern boats with it like this... <br /><br />where do you mount yours and why<br /><br />by the way, it is a 8 foot fiberglass model with the folding base, so it folds flat when boat is not in use...<br /><br />thanks

VHF transmission is line-of-sight.<br /><br />You want to mount your antenna as high as possible. On some boat designs that might not be very high but you have to do the best you can.
