Where does the bilge blower inlet go

Hi Everyone!!
This is a great board full of good information and advice. I am new to the board and boating. I purchased a well kept 88 SeaRay Seville 20CC in the fall and am learning all I can to make sure it stays in good shape. The info found here helps a lot. My question: The flex inlet tube for the bilge blower is loose in the engine compartment and I suspect it should be secured as low in the bilge as possible. It is presently resting on a level with the exhaust manifolds. Where should it be?

Thanks--John

John
You are right, the inlet to the bilge blower should be as low as you can get it and still be sure it is above any bilge water. You want to get fumes out before they reach a spark source. The air inlet should be high above engine.
Welcome to the board

Re: Where does the bilge blower inlet go

John,
I have an 89 Sea Ray 220 OV and know exactly what you are talking about. My blower tube is fastened even with the manifold. In the 220, there is then a ledge in the boat where the battery sits with storage (manifold height), then the bottom of the boat drops down, where the engine sits (makes changing the oil filter fun). My tube stops at that ledge. The tube vents out the port side vent on the top of the gunwale. Hope this helps. I purchased my boat Spring 2002 and love it. I think you will enjoy your 20 footer. Merry Christmas!

Re: Where does the bilge blower inlet go

My setup is the same as Hammerheads. The lower part of the engine sets in a well and the blower inlet is on a shelf where the battery and tilt power pump is mounted. I am going to buy a longer section of blower hose and extend it down into the bilge. As far as I know all the fumes in the engine compartment are heavier than air. I can secure the inlet pretty low in the bilge and get the maximum benefit from the blower.

Thanks for your replies.
John

Gas fumes and heaver than air and will settle in bottom of boat. Just make sure it is high enough to be above any water. My boat was very much like your is. They actually had input at the same level. Input air should be above the level of the backflame arestor.
