Where does the water pump discharge to 77 Envinrude 55 HP

This sounds like a crazy question.

I just bought a used 77 Evinrude 55 HP motor. I can't for the life of me find where the water pump discharges to. On my 40 Johnson there is a discharge nipple on the rear of the motor cover which gives me the normal water stream that tells me the water pump is working.

I feel bad for asking as I must be overlooking something really obvious.

Thanks in advance for your help

Cheers

Hazard

Sure ... is it overheating? You should be able to put your fingers on the cylinder head w/o getting burned (most motors run 140 to 150?F). The telltale (pee stream) doesn't tell if it's overheating. Not a bad idea to add a temperature gauge, if your motor doesn't have one. Pretty easy to do.

Some OMC motors of your vintage had no 'tell-tale'. Most exhaust and water return was thru the hub, but I was told by a now long dead mech that some water should 'spit' out the exposed exhaust ports ... ;)
