Hi All;

I recently aquired a 1985 Chris Craft (made by Grew) Scorpion 169SL with an OMC stringer drive and a Chevy 3 litre engine. Can anyone tell me what Chev or GMC truck used these engines? The parts manual refers to get some parts at your Chevy dealer - what model of truck can I use as reference when I go to a Chev dealer?? thanks a lot.

none
the 153 was used in some early chevy novas but the 181(3.0) was never used in an automotive application.
some parts will fit from the 250 and 230 GM inline 6.
what parts are you looking for?

3.0

A small 3.0 L (181 in?) version of the Buick V6 was produced for GM's 1980s front-wheel drive cars. Introduced in 1982, it was a lower deck version of the 3.8 designed for transverse application in the new GM A platform cars such as the Buick Century and Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera. It shared the same bore size as its larger sibling, but featured a smaller stroke of 2.66 in (67.56 mm). Introduced with a Rochester E2ME 2-bbl carburetor, it later received multipoint fuel injection.

Different engine? He's talking about a 4?

He's talking about the 4, and it wasn't used in cars or trucks

there are hundreds of engines with any number of cylinders with a coincidental 3 liters of displacement like that Buick one...not used in boats

Items like valve cover gasket, lifter cover gaskets and so on.. many items are listed in the parts manual as "SEE YOUR LOCAL CHEV DEALER'

some of the electrical, distributer body, altenator and starter for some are marine specific, some of the valve train parts are marine specific. the intake/ex manifold and carb are marine specific as is the fuel pump.
most autoparts stores can sell you the marine spcific parts as the 3.0 was a poular engine in smaller hulls for the beginner market.
GM's chevrolet divison produced that basic engine in a 153 CID and a 181CID and they shared some common parts.
dont confuse it with the 151 CID pontiac designed 4cyl commonly refered to as the iron duke.
only thing the different GM division engines shared was the same corperate HQ.

There are no "marine" valvetrain parts on that engine....

Rotating assy, valvetrain, gaskets etc can all be ordered through a chevy dealer

IF

you have a good parts guy that is willing look up parts without a vehicle reference. Unfortunately, that is getting pretty rare.

You can also call KEM Equipment in Tualatin, OR for parts. They are a GM Indrustral engine dealer.
