Where is Hours Meter on Engine?

Hello. I've got a 18' family runabout/open bow. I've got a 3.0 Volvo Penta I/O. I bought it last year with an advertised 40 hours on the engine. I'm nearly confident that the dealer showed me the 40 hours on the meter. I'm now looking to see how many hours I put on it last season and can't find it. Can anyone give me some clues as to where that meter is or if it is in many different spots, what feeds the info to it so I can trace it from that point?

Thanks.

Re: Where is Hours Meter on Engine?

The meter could be mounted just about anywhere, mine is on the dash with the rest of the gauges but some are mounted on or near the engine. It’s odd that you now can’t find it! It has 2 wires at the back of the gauge; one should be connected to a wire in the boat that comes live when the ignition switch is in the ‘on’ position. The other needs to be earthed, usually just connected to an existing earth wire.
