I'm trying to install a perko battery selector switch and need to locate a wire. Where would I locate the charging wire on this motor? I cant find anything leading to the battery that looks like a charging wire.

There would be a small red wire coming from the rectifier to the starter solenoid.-----There it joins up to the main red cable that comes from the battery.-------------There is no dedicated " charging " wire that goes all the way to the battery.

Why do you need the charging wire to install a battery switch anyway? Doesn't it just connect the battery cables? Or is there something new I don't know about?

The battery charging is done thru the actual battery cables.

Some Perko switches have a small terminal located approximately in the rear middle of the switch which is for the accessories. Is this what you're speaking of?

I assumed that the charging wire ran directly to the batteries so I wanted to be sure it was wired to the perko switch so as to charge both and not just one. Where does the wire go after it leaves the motor? The ignition switch?

Follow the directions from Perko and you should be okay.

yup. follow the Perko instructions. If you are trying to get your motor to charge an auxiliary battery, you might look into an isolator -- might not actually need the selector switch, depending on your application. I'm not sure what your output is, but probably not huge. I think a '72 had either a 9 or 15amp charging system, with the 15amp operating with a regulator, but maybe the '78 has a higher output.
