I have a Mariner 4 cylinder 40HP, 1996 , just changed the impeller , because the water out of the pissing hole is hot to the tack, I want to change the termostat but I can't find it, I have checked many different websites with mercury engines diagramas, and none of them show the the thermostat..any help..thanks

Re: where is the thermostat

if your motor came with one it would be behind the exhaust cover

Re: where is the thermostat

so wish is the correct answer, behind the exhaust cover or it doesn't have one, I'm more thinking that it doesn't have one, but still bothers me the water coming out some how hot , more than normal, it pumps a lot of water and with pressure, but hot

Latin Monkey said "If it came with one....". I'm saying it didn't come with one....

Water should be cool. I'm guessing you have a blockage in the cooling system somewhere.
