Where is Yoda and the 85 Force when you need him?

I have an 85 Force outboard motor that I'm running on my 1977 Sea Nymph fish and swim. The problem I'm having, is when I give it full throttle, sometimes the motor will bog down. It starts up fine, and will idle perfect. However, sometimes when I give it full throttle it will bog down or shut off all together. It feels like I'm giving it to much power too fast, because when I ease into it, the motor responds better. I'm thinking a tune up should do the trick. I was thinking of taking it to bass pro to have it serviced. I'm mechanically inclined when it comes to cars, but I have never worked on a boat. Is this something I could do? Additionally the throttle lever has to be pushed all the way to get enough power. I'm a first time boat owner and the guy I bought the boat from says it just needs a in line fuel filter, and he told me the linkage for the throttle needs to be adjusted. What should I do?

Definately DIY if your mechanically inclined. I am a little that way and have done my own waterpump/exhaust manifold and tune. Check out the Sticky at the top of the forum called ' Link & Sync' by Frank Acampora.

Follow this and get back to us.

By the way, a compression test never hurts if you can do that and post the results.

If you dont have a filter, put one on, and a water/fuel seperater. Replace impellor or entire waterpump, change lower unit oil and your service is complete for around $100.00. ( Waterpump $80.00, ower Unit Oil $20). Add to that your fuel filter/s and that cheaper than ANY mariner.

Cheers

Thanks Justinde. I was thinking along those lines.
