Where should I start?

I have a 21 ft 1971 Seaflite (Chiscraft?) with 302ci ford engine and a Series R Mercruiser out drive. The engine is locked up, the tilt/trim system isn't working, and the bellows on the out drive need replacing. I'm sure the raw water pump etc. needs replacing also. Where should I start? Engine, upper unit, lower unit?

Thanks, Hop

PS: The hull, stringers, motor mounts, transom are all in excellent condition, (no wood rot, blisters or delamination)

First off......If this is the orginal outdrive its a #1 outdrive.

Pull the outdrive off the transom. Then try to turn the engine over. If it will not. Remove the sparkplugs and pour Marvel Mystery oil down each plug hole. In a few days try to turn the crankshaft over with a wrench on the crank nut. Rock it back and forth and pour more Mystery oil down the hole. Then go back in a few days and try again.

If the engine turns over when the outdrive is removed your problem is in the outdrive.

Since this is a older boat....Dont be pouring alot of money into it. It may only be worth parts.

Thanks, Trent, I'll try that. I'm sure I'll be back for more info.
