Where to buy a block

Well being the boating newbie, I tried to do the JB Weld trick on an old block for a 4.3L 262 ci '88 mercruiser sterndrive. She ran for about 15 min. and things seemed fine on the muffs until an awful tasting milkshake started pouring out of the carb.
Anyhow, like I said a newbie, and how better to learn than putting one together yourself. So where can I get a good block at a great price. I'll be putting it together myself along with a full service manual and iboats so the more together it is the better off we all are.
When a company says no core charge what exactly do they mean?
Thanks

They mean the price is for an engine "outright"....... I.E. you do not have to return a rebuildable "core"

There's several places around the country that sell "longblock" engines.

Do a search for Rapido Marine, Jasper, Ebasic Power, Doug Russell, You might even be able to go to your local machine shop and have them build you one.....That way you save the shipping and if something goes wrong, you can go stand on their desk.

with the age of your boat, it does not make any sence to put in a rebuilt short or long block. Look for a used boat engine that you should be able to find for $1,000.00. Make sure the engine runs, it's easy to run an engine outside the boat, and has good compression.

a 4.3 is a very common engine i would look on your local craigs list or go to an automotive junk yard for a good core and change your guts over to it ..if you have never rebuilt an engine it's not hard but i suggest you find someone to help you ...by the time you get done rebuilding it might be cheeper to buy a running moter and sell your old heads to help pay for the cost
