Where to buy lower unit for omc cobra 5.8?

Lower unit seized up on me 2 days ago. Cant find any used ones. New/Rebuilt is out of my budget. Checked craigslist and ebay, dont see anything for a v8 motor under 1200.

Anyone know where I can find one?

What year Cobra do you have? Is it the dog clutch version or the SX?

The lowers are the same for all V-8 and V-6. if it's a cobra.

If the "lower" seized up, the whole drive must come apart to inspect.

Bolting a "new" lower on it and running it, will just be a recipe for another failure.

Sorry, It actually wasn't seized, but water got into the case somehow and it quit on me while out on the water. Got it home and drained the gear oil and found a good mix of water and oil, along with a ton of metal shavings. Given that it did not seize, do youy think the upper should be alright?

The upper and lower share the same oil, it circulates throughout the drive. If there is metal in the lower, there is metal in the upper as well.
