where to find a mercury tilt switch

It that switch rated at more than 600 volts?
You could try an outboard wreckers (secondhand)...

probably not do i have to have it for it to run(it's manual tilt anyhow)
Can i eliminate it and still shut it off with the key

I know you'll say i need it and i probably do but please tell me if i can go without it

The switch is there for a couple of reasons. Primarily it prevents from over reving should you hit a large submerged object at speed and your engine comes up out of the water. Secondly, in case you accidently tilt your engine (solenoid sticks, switch goes bad, etc.), while your running.

Knowing that, if you decided it's worth the risk to remove it then you can and your engine will still run fine. Just don't come back here complaining that you blew up your motor because someone told you to remove the switch.
