Where to find a pontoon that could be powered with my Mercruiser 3.0 and Alpha One?

I have an almost new Mercruiser 3.0 and an Alpha One on my bowrider. Thinking about trading or dumping the old boat for a pontoon. Seems I could save a lot of money on a newer, nicer pontoon without an engine. How difficult is it to find a pontoon that is already setup for the engine and drive I already have? Can any pontoon be setup with this power train? I realize smaller pontoons are not rated for this much horsepower. Would love a party barge with my current setup.

Replacing my current boat with a pontoon is just a dream for now. What do ou all think? What other factors should I be thinking about?

Is an I/O on a pontoon just stupid?

;)Well call me STUPID!!! I have an '84 JC Tritoon with a M/C 470 and an alpha outdrive.

I would think if you want new, then find a toon dealer you like an order the boat w/o the engine but setup for your engine.

I saw a 'toon, with some kind of I/O cruise past our place last weekend. Not seeing an outboard, and the exhaust ports aft was just downright odd... And here I thought it was a home-grown one-of-a-kind.

toon are made with IO, their just not common and they have their own special sets of problems from what I have been told.

Thanks for the responses. I just haven't seen or heard of a pontoon with one. Just seems like I could save lots of money if I could use my existing drive train on a boat I would rather have.

You could possibly do this but I really don't think it is worth it, most pontoon manufacturers offer an I/O version of thier boat, your problem is going to be finding one set up for a merc 3.0 and even if you did go new delete engine you still have to pay someone to switch the engine and I am sure they would make you sign off on it as a no warranty boat.

I would sell the almost new engine and drive and put the money towards a ready to go boat.

Call me stupid as well, but a 25 ft pontoon with a 5.7 litre Chevy V8 sounds pretty dang good. All the people who eat sleep and breath toons say it could hit 50 no problem. interested to hear what speeds you've hit a1nowell!

there are a handfull of people on here looking for 3.0 and alphas to fix their busticated boats. I would sell it to someone that needs it and get a 'toon with the engine already in it, and with a warranty, etc. you will come out ahead that way

think of it as not stepping over the $20 bill to pick up the nickle
