OK, now that I learned how to install a switch and 2nd battery, where should I mount it?

My boat has 2 compartments at the rear on either side, logic says to mount the 2nd battery in the
other compartment so weight is distributed evenly.

Is this correct or can it be mounted next to the existing battery to limit cable length?

TIA :D

Weight distribution is not a big issue on a pontoon or deck boat. You have a very wide beam. Go with the simple installation.

- When 2 batteries are run in a single bank, series configuration (increased voltage) they need to be banked together.
- When 2 batteries are run in a single-bank, parallel configuration (increased A/hrs) they need to be banked together.
- When 2 batteries are run in a 2-bank configuration (i.e. one battery is for starting and one a deep cycle) the proximity of the banks to each other isn’t important.

Perhaps another consideration might be the convenience of hooking up a charger when you get back to the barn, if you use one.
