Welcome aboard!
What prop are you running now, and what RPM are you attaining with a normal load?
What are you looking for performance-wise?

Re: Where to start-selecting a prop

Thanks for the Welcome and the quick reply. Right now I am running a 14x17 and top RPM is 4000. I use the boat to cruise the lake and fish. Dealer says 14.5x22.

Re: Where to start-selecting a prop

If you are now running a 17 pitch and only attaining 4000RPM(800 shy of max) we sure have no reason to go to a 22 pitch and drop to 3000 max...
I don't know where some of these dealers get thier training???
First thing I would do would be to have the tach verified as accurate..."if" it is accurate, we need to know the engine itself is healthy.
Does the boat stay in the water? or do you trailer it.

I pull the boat out of the water. I will have the Tach. checked for accuracy.

The numbers on the current prop installed are 48-78118-17. What do these numbers mean?

Thanks

That's the Merc part number and the last 2 digits are the pitch.

Tell your dealer that if he'll stop shooting in the dark on prop recommendations those holes in his foot will start to heal up.
