Where to trim my manual trim outboard

Hi,<br /><br />I have a 70 horse chrysler outboard motor on my old 1973 crestliner tri-hull. it DOES NOT have power tilt/trim..the only way to tilt the engine is by pulling out a long pin and re-insert it into a different set of holes, either close to or farther away from the back of the boat.<br /><br />My question is this. there are 4 different positions for me to trim the motor. I most often take the boat out on two rivers the mississippi river and the black river both of which are fairly choppy and heavy with boat traffic. Where should I trim my boat out at? the back is fairly heavy with a 10 gallon gas tank, battery, outboard engine, and some life jackets all stored back there.<br /><br />What do you guys think?<br /><br />Dan

you may have to try more than one hole, but I would start on the second hole from the transom...just a Thought

2nd hole from the transom is a good starting point.

You can try the second hole from the transom. Then try bottom hole for posible better hole shot.<br />And 3rd hole for better cruising.<br /><br />Got to try them to see how it will work.

You have a 25% chance of getting it right. I would start with the hole that puts the cavitation plate closest to parallel with the bottom of the boat. You can then adjust up or down depending on required bow lift and performance.
