I need ony for this Merc 200 I'm working on. It's a '78. I believe 4-20hp are all the same.

I found one on eBay and bid on it. I waited 5 days and watched it right up until there was less than a minute left. Some ***** outbid me somehow, with less than a freakin' minute!

I never trust a used ignition part unless it came off a motor I KNOW was working. Too many have eBayed faulty parts. Some knew it was bad, others didn't. The one screwed in the end is the buyer. If you go that route, make certain it works before leaving feedback. Too many leave positive feedback based on quick delivery, then find out later that they got junk.

Willy, some Ebay parts vendors guarantee the parts up front. The very best of them even offer advice and tech support. :D

However, there are plenty of hacks on Ebay taking apart dead outbards and "scrapping them to Ebay" too. Read the ads.

And Shaffer, You got "sniped". Most Ebay auctions are won and lost in the final 10 seconds.

-W

ShafferNY, try this place out on eBay: Bennett Marine (I am giving them a free promo). They have an ebay store, phone numbers and usually a two year garauntee on these parts. The electrical parts come from CDI Electronics for a reasonable price. You can also call Dr Ross at the numbers provided and he is real good w/ details, advice, etc on repairing motors.

Re: Where's the best place to find a used switch box?

I emailed a guy at Atlantic Marine Service. They have a used one for $50. That's isn't bad considering the cheapest new one I could find was $117, and that was from Bennett Marine on eBay like aukooze91 mentioned. One place wanted as high as $200 for one.

I was hoping to find someone who had an old junk motor with a blown power head or lower unit so I could buy it for parts.

I have to say though, $50 isn't bad, and it comes with a 30 day warranty.

I just bought 2 new switch boxes for my 115 Mercury from Stokley Marine, Nichlasville KY. 269.00 each. Given the opportunity, I would have gladly given 117.00 each. I was between a rock and a hard place so I paid the price. Grab the 117.00 ones as quick as you can.
