where's the motor model number?

1990 140 Johnson outboard. where is the motor number? i'll need it for parts later so i better find the location. it's a rebuilt head and i'm a boating know nothing.

Mine was on the side of the transom facing the motor it was on the leftgoing up the motor bracket

Port side facing aft on the transom mounting bracker. The mod # may also appear on a plug (looks like the classic aluminum freezeout or welsh plug) usually also on the port (left) side near the top with engine cover removed.<br /><br />Steve

Found it under the paint on the transom bracket. Does 14EM sound right?<br />Thanks

No, I'm afraid it doesn't. You should find something like: J140ELES. Take another look on the transom bracket to the left (port side) of the motor cover for a metal plate with model & serial #.
