This is me and my dads first boat (used)... The trim won't lower, actually it doesn't do anything. Won't go up either. Doesn't make any noise when we press the buttons (that we think are the switches) but don't know where to start. Can someone point out my trim pump in the pics? So I can start following wires? We're gonna take it to a marine mechanic, but wanna give it a try first

This is a 350 Chevy Engine 2001 with a pre alpha outdrive

That *might* be it in the bottom right of pic A.
Look for the 2 hydraulic lines coming from the bottom of the transom plate, they will go to the pump. You will probably need a small mirror and a light to see under the engine.

Yes, those are the trim switches. if the labels were still on them, I believe they are; top to bottom, Up, Up/Out, In.

I would check to see if I had 12 volts to the trim switch. You should hear a click when you press the trim button. Have you pushed the top 2 buttons at the same time? If you have no power to the switch put a jumper from the battery + and see if that is the problem. Looks like you have some car parts on the engine. I would learn the difference between auto and marine and check out the "Air cleaner" s/b a flame arrester with coast guard numbers on it. check the carb, alternator, fuel pump, distributor and starter. This is a serious safety problem. Where does that white hose go to that is hooked to the valve cover? I dont think a shop will work on your boat unless you let them change out a lot of stuff.

Could this be it too that may be causing it? Loose unterminated wires coming out of the outdrive. Would bypassing the trim limit switch fix it? Would that keep it from making any sound, not even a click?

Yes, we know there's some car parts on it. That's why we need to talk to a marine mechanic to know. Me and my dad didn't do all this stuff. We just bought it this way. We definitely want it to be safe. But just don't know how.:confused:

Thanks

I believe you're talking about the "car" air cleaner, Lyle? I think that might be a K&N style flame arrestor, like this one;

It just hasn't been oiled.

....
The trim limit prevents you from raising the outdrive past normal trim range (to trailer position) by pressing only the "OUT" button. You should still be able to operate trim "IN" and "OUT" when the drive is down.

Yes. I was looking at the element. It looks like a auto filter. Plus the alternator. The spark plugs wires run over the exhaust this could cause problems. Might be Auto distributor. I dont remember a few of the lines on the carb. The fumes from the valve cover might be vented to the bilge. looks like a vacuum pod or 2 are on the manifold. I read his new post. Sounds like he is going to have it checked out. That was what I was pushing for.

Man, looks like i'm gonna change out alot of stuff... :( I'm taking notes, so please let me know.

This sure has been a journey. Learning alot on the way. We were so happy that we just got the trailer, to be able to get to the shop. Now this is looking like an even bigger task... hahaha... Thanks for being helpful. Thanks :)
