Please help....acquired a new used boat that needs a new battery. Appears they were using a car battery but I would like to replace it with a marine type battery. I have a 225 v6 Johnson engine that I believe is a 1989 model. Will be using the battery to run accessories and starting the engine. Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

Re: Which battery do I get?

I'm on my fourth happy year with a MAXX-29 Deep Cycle, Dual Purpose Marine Battery. It is rated at 875 MCA and 675 CCA. The RC on the MAXX-29 is 205 minutes. The warranty can't be beat.

I have found nothing that competes for near the price.

The battery that was on it was a 24mx - 850 CCA - 135RC.....how does that compare to the maxx-29. I see the cca is less on the maxx-29 and I do not know what the MCA stands for...or what the RC even stands for.

MCA = Marine Cranking Amps. RC = Reserve Capacity. Just buy the largest capacity marine starting battery you have room for. You cannot have too much capacity -- only too little.
