Re: Which Chartplotter do you own?

I have the Lowrance 5200c with the 3000 antenna. Unit works good.

I also bought the Lowrance x510c sonar to match the globalmap 5200c.

Lowrance has issues with their new sonars. They lock up a freeze in shallow weedy bays. I think its a software problem that Lowrance has no fix for. I bought the x510c as an upgrade to a flawless 7 year old x75,so I am not new to Lowrance. The x510 along with the other units that share the same software are junk, in shallow water where you really rely on your sonar to work for you. I`ll be getting my graph back from Lowrance for the second time knowing that its not fixed since theyre just changing software without acknowledging what the problem is.
Humminbird, here I may come if my Lowrance is still not fixed after a ruined fishing season. My saga has been on going since May. Lowrance has been working with me but I want a fix I`m not getting. Summer is too short in the north for this kind of trouble. How could they have fallen since the days of the X65,X75,& X85? Those were great graphs wish I had my X75 back!

I have a handheld Lowrance.
I found the mapping software grossly inaccurate and terribly out of date (even after updating twice).

Re: Which Chartplotter do you own?

Just installed (30 days ago) an Eagle FishElite 500 c. Still getting used to it, but so far so good. I use the split screen and like having a view of both bottomfinder and gps. Has good waypoint features and so far the bottom finder has not had the problems the Lowrance models seem to have. Eagle is a division of Lowrance.

Re: Which Chartplotter do you own?

I have a Garmin 176C. I use it in both the truck and boat, and I can use it in friend's boats and cars etc. I find the correct software (marine for water and highway for road) to be extremely accurate. Down to being able to see small rises on the bottom to the point that it is close to a depth sounder without the sounder . . . It is not bright enough and I understand this is one of the improvements with the 276 and 476 available now . . . With the built in antenna it is pretty slow to acquire if there are any obstructions and it loses the signal in the car often.

Older lowrance lcx19c. Has been pretty nice setup but I have had to install new transducer. I fish in upstate NY wondering what kind of software you could sugg. such as hot maps or such.

Eagle 500c , useless in a car but then its not an car unit.
Bought the gold chip, another $200.!
Another $70 for speedometer add on.
A bit too complicated for me, I don't think I'll ever explore most of its extended features.
screen isn't ez to see in sunlight like the box says.
But I don't think any of the lcd screens really work in direct sun.

Re: Which Chartplotter do you own?

Garmin gpsmap 420X, the X being weather... discontinued last year.

I don't like garmin in general because of the difficulty of getting maps onto it and the price of the garmin ones, but this one has some decent built-in cartography, plus the satellite weather option, for $400.

The screen is excellent, bright and readable. The maps for most lakes are decent. Unfortunately the map for Lake Superior is an extra $300 plus shipping.

I plan on getting a big screen chart plotter at some point, but right now the garmin is ok.

Re: Which Chartplotter do you own?

I went out with my neighbor crabbing last night. He just installed a Lowrance X-27. Sweet unit. Looks like they have improved the software. I still prefer the Navionics charts though...more detail.

lowrance 335C DF but have not use it yet because the module antennae and cables are missing and I do not know if it is worthy to spend $160.00 to get this module. Are they good enough GPS?

I run a stand alone FF so I'm running a Garmin 4208 Chart plotter for navigation only. Nothing like running a dedicated plotter

Humminbird 757C with a dual beam transducer. The color screen is easy to read during daytime. I'm using the built in maps without the Navionics card. I like it.

Raymarine! (NOT RAYTHEON)

Raymarine C80 Uniden 525 Lowrance GPSMAP3500C (backup gps)

My C80 is networked to the 3500c via nmea0183 & N2K. If I have a nmea failure, a button push enters another GPS antenna and feeds both units. That way I always have two displays and two GPS signals possible. I am an ocean guy that routinely does 24-38mi's (one way) trips.

I have a Garmin 3006C with a magellan meridian gold as a back up with a Standard Horizon Quest-x GX1500s VHF with a Stardard Horizon HX600S handheld as a backup.

All easy to use.
