I have a 1988 Motorguide Brute 750 (no manuals),
12/24 volt, 41 lb thrust. The wiring diagram on the Motorguide web site showed a 50 Amp breaker.
However on the on/off switch (located on foot pendal) it showed a 35 Amp rating. Which one should I go with????????

Re: Which Circuit Breaker?????

If the breaker is for a motor you need to consider the ‘inrush’ current. When a motor starts up it pull more current than it will use when at speed. It is common to size up the breaker to accommodate this inrush amperage. You will see this with most bilge pumps too; a pump rated for 5amps may have a manf suggestion of an 8amp breaker, that kind of thing. Go with the manf recommendation for the breaker (50amp), and you’ll be fine. The 35amp footswitch should be fine with the over-current during the startup inrush.

Btw, welcome to the board! :)
