Excuse me if this has been asked before. However I was wondering if Merc used the Ford 2.3 engine block from the Pinto/mustang/escort type automotive lineup? Or was the base block the old "Iron Duke" from GM.

Ayuh,.... Neither.... btw, Welcome Aboard....

Mercruiser Never used the 2.3l... OMC did....

The Iron Duke is a 151cid Pontiac motor...
Mercruiser used both the 153cid, 2.5l, 'n the 181cid, 3.0l Chevy motors...
They're direct descendents of the I6 motor used at the time...

Re: Which company provided older Mercury blocks?

thanks for that info. Thing is I have a solid Ford 2.3 short block and I am looking to find it a new home. Perhaps a boater might need one. I'll contact my local OMC guys
