i got a couple outdrives here and am going to take the best parts of each and make 1 really good unit with all new seals etc. one outdrive has the rulebber o-ring type and the other looks like it uses a flat cork style gasket... which one would you use and why?

the rubber i can see having the best initial seal but i find after time the seal loses it stiffness and shape and flattens out permanantly

I didn't see your previous post... but typically any transom assembly that requires the flat cork gasket is going to be an older "pre-alpha" type of transom assembly, while the rubber O-ring type is going to be the "newer" style of assembly. I would suggest using the transom assembly that matches your engine and outdrive you are wanting to use.

Ayuh,... Agreed,... The type of gasket is irrelevant, ya gotta use whatever matches the housin', 'n Newer is better,...

Those never leak, til the transom rots out, 'n then it's the rot, not type of gasket used,...

Whichever one you use, the inner transom plate MUST be its mate. You can't 'mix and match' those...

Also a few other things to consider. The new style gimbal housing (with the 'O' ring) has side mounted trim senders, much better than the old style senders, The new gimbal housing also has the new style hinge pins, also much better than the old style. All-in-all, I'd be using the new style gimbal housing...
