Which impeller

1980 mercury 110 9.8hp short shaft

Planning to exchange impeller within the week. It's my first time doing so with this motor. I look up parts and find 4 different impellers. 2 for impellers for short shaft, 2 for long shafts. I have a short shaft so that takes off 2 but I'm left with 2 still.

Is there a way to find out which one I have without taking off the lower unit and taking impeller out to read the part number? Or is that the only way?

Strange there are short and long shaft impellers, on newer engines just same impeller for short, long and even extra long shafts. Won't find a part number written on impeller, so pull lower leg and check impeller size.

What is the serial number on the motor, that will tell which part if the correct one, on the 110 it was the same impeller for many years. If it is above serial number 4126460, it is a Sierra part number 18-3446 Below that number it is a Sierra 18-3447 The 3447 is not all that easy to find these days. Both of those numbers are full water pump kits and include housing and gaskets and such, iboats carries the 18-3446, you can see it at this link:

http://www.iboats.com/mall/partfinde...n_id=863911489

This kit fits many of the smaller HP Mercury motors.

Here is the link to the chart.

If you are looking for just the impeller, they are available on ebay.

But again, the most important thing is your serial number, post that up and we can help you figure it out.

Serial number : 5710109

From the chart, the corresponding parts number is 18-3446.
But yes I believe the pump should be fine on mines so how can I figure just the impeller number from this kit?

Oh and how is the quality of Sierra compared to oem?

Depends on the lower unit that is installed now !----Different shaft diameters and you need to measure it to get the correct impeller !!!

It would be prudent to measure it to make sure, but all of my service manuals that cover that engine indicate the .456 shaft.
