Which is better - ADI or Distributer-based Ignition on Mercs?

All of the Mercs have evolved into some sort of ADI type ignition. While I am fairly certain that cost played an important part in this evolution, is their any evidence that ADI is better than the battery-driven CDI systems used in some seventies Mercs?

Only better in terms of ease of maintenance - and cost of replacement parts in 2007.

Clams, Thanks for the info. I happened to price out the ADI components for an inline 6, and they are not cheap either. $25X6 for the coils, $150X2 for the switchboxes, $150 for the atator, $150 for the trigger. That is $700 plus for the set. Is a distributor system that pricy?
