Which is the better boat?

I'm thinking of buying my first boat.I've looked at 86 Bayliner Capri,15ft,with a 50hp Force, and a 73 Thompson tri-hull,16ft,with an Evinrude 65hp,also year 1973.Both are priced the same.Which would be the better choice? I've read the posts on here about the Bayliner/Force combos, and it seems more negative than positive.I heard the Evie run,the owner fired it up in front of me after its been sitting for 7 months, and it sounded ok.The Force,I haven't heard run yet,the owner was replacing the water pump when I looked at her. Both rigs appear to be in decent shape. On the Thompson,I did notice that the hull has been patched, whereas the Bayliners hull looked very good, hardly a scratch on it.Any feedback on this would be appreciated.Sorry for the long post,I'm new to this! Thanks in advance!

bassbuster,

There are thirteen years in age between the two.

I think that tells you sometyhing about the resale value of Bayliner/Force.

Resale value is also indicative of how many are out in the market. More Bayliners out in the market equals lower resale. Supply and demand.

Re: Which is the better boat?

Thanks guys for your input! And Blacksmoke, thanks for the link to Thompson boats, that was very interesting,as I'm in WI.Those Bayliners do seem popular around here.I'm still shopping around. The asking price for both of these rigs is $1700.I think I'll stay away from the Bayliner, unless the owner(who is a small dealer)wants to hang a different engine on it! Thanks again! Bob
