I bought an impeller kit for my 1989 85hp force outboard and the impeller did not fit over the shaft, it was too small and the new impeller seals did not match the ones i took off. Which is the right one for my outboard? the impeller i took off had the numbers, 18-3017. I need the whole kit. Thanks.

Re: Which is the right impeller kit?

Do you have a 1989, with a 2 piece drive shaft ?
Then the 18-3017 is the correct Sierra brand impeller.

If you need the whole kit, you need Mercury part number FK1202-1

There is one on ebay, or you can google to find any number of online retailers.

You can verify part number and order from any Mercury dealer.

This seller on ebay, also owns Mastertech Marine, and the Maxrules dot com website.

i ordered one from a boat dealer and he sent me the wrong one, the impeller was too small and it didnt fit over the shaft. I called him and he said they made two different types of water pumps for that year of engine. Is this true?

Re: Which is the right impeller kit?

Yes, one for the one piece driveshaft, and a different one for the motors with the 2 piece driveshaft. The 2 piece driveshaft has a coupler that splits the driveshaft in the middle.
