I have a 17'10" smokercraft with a dual console and walk through windshield. I just installed a 115HP 4-stroke Merc which idles nice and slow but still pushes me at about 3+ MPH. I want to be able to slow that down to 2 or less MPH and need to buy a kicker, a 4-stroke so I don't have to mix gas. A 9.9HP is about 110 lbs and 6HP is about 55 lbs. Which would better serve my purpose as a trolling motor?

6horse would be better, at 9horse you get int trouble becuase some are made with so many extras you don't nees!

I would go with the 6 hp. The 9.9 is to big for a kicker on that size boat. First of all it would be more money. Secondly it weighs alot more: more bulky. And maybe someday you will get a little dinghy and you could use the 6 on it. GO FOR THE 6!!!

another vote for the 6 hp. It's better to run a smaller motor at slightly higher rpms than to throttle down a larger motor. The 6 will be a good troller -- slow trolling, without having to idle it too far down.
