Hi.

Mercury, 90HP, 4-stroke, 2003.

I am winterizing boat for winter. Am completely confused as to which lubricant to use for which required greasings. U-joint and gimbal grease, 2-4-c grease, spline grease, wheel-bearing grease, anti-corrosion grease? I have no owner's manual. PLEASE EXPLAIN!

Zerk fittings?
U-joints?
Gimble bearing?
Swivel brackets?
Steering line?
Tilt tube and support level?
Prop shaft?

I would recommend buying a service manual. A very handy, necessary tool, and good investment if you plan on owning this motor, and doing things yourself, for a long period of time. It has all the information you need. Buy the factory tho, not seloc or chlymer.

Merc supplies grease just for the occasion and it is probably the best money can buy for the purpose. Secondly, I'd opt for the blue grease sold for trailer wheel bearings and all.....formulated to stick to metal and prevent water contamination and as one would expect reduce friction....ww sells the trailer grease (house brand) and some sell Merc/Quicksilver lubes and may stock some grease. Otherwise go to your local marine dealer or www for some.

And yes on the service manual.

I don't see your s/n anywhere but this should be the manual for your engine, one revision out of date:

P/N: 90-85889R1

http://1manual.com/Mercury manuals/Service Manual PDFs/FourStroke/858895r1/cover.pdf

You must have Adobe Acrobat reader installed to use this manual. If you scroll down to the lower part of the opening page, you will see the various engine components in red. Click on the one you want and when the first page opens, click on the "Save As" icon at the top LH corner of the page and you can save it to your computer.

Parts listing:

Marine Wheel bearing grease in a gun is fine for all zerc grease fittings, as well as prop shaft and general use on bolts and stuff. The Quicksilver Special Lube 101 is a bit better for steering rods, however, for freshwater use, I wouldn't spend the $$.

You will remember to change the gear oil and engine oil and filter, right? Engine oil should be a FC-W designated Motor Oil. Gear oil should be a marine gear oil for mechanical shift motors. I would use a full-synthetic gear oil, if it were me, on that new of a motor.
