Which material???

There are so many options for the types and weights of ?glass. You can do it so many ways and probably have good success with it. Very confusing! A search brings up many more hours of useful and confusing/confounding opinions.

New deck. ? exterior plywood. Want to glass/poly resin both sides. The glass is to hold the poly together to alleviate cracking/leaking issues, not necessarily to make it strong enough to drive a truck on. What ?glass material is necessary?

Glassing inside of transom (I/O). What material? Glassing transom to hull sides and bottom?

Is there a common material that will do all of the above without requiring 3-4 different weights and styles to be found and purchased? and remnants be around forever?

I know that a ?glass tape is the easiest most practical for the deck joints and deck to hull joint, I think, don?t I??

What can be added to the poly resin to S__L __O__ W it somewhat in 95 degree heat?? I'm not as small or fast as I used to be!! ;):(:D

Thanks again for all your considered wisdom and help.

Re: Which material???

For low cost and fewer supplies, go with 1.5oz mat and 24oz roving, these will work for just about everything and be easy to get. As for slow resin, you need to ask the place you get it from, some will have a couple of options to choose from. Check the yellow pages in your area for fiberglass supplies, you'll get good instructions and more products to pick from, you can buy less up front and only get more if you need it, plus you can resupply the same day if needed.

Re: Which material???

I agree on the cloth but think it should read 1.5oz MAT and 24oz roven. Get laminating resin, not the standard boatyard stuff...which is generically called finishing resin because it has wax to make it dry without tack. Laminating stays tacky and will let you glass at different times without sanding between. Stacking layers at one time makes more heat which speeds up kick rate and reduces working time. Adjust work time in high heat by reducing catalyst...take notes on temp, humidity and kick times for each batch. It will let you tweak catalyst for the following batches.
