Which motor?

I have a 1983 Starfire 24 with a Mercruiser 260 and Alpha 1 outdrive. I lost the engine coupler and thrust bearing due to misalignment and pulled the motor. I discovered that the original motor had been replaced with a regular Chevy 350 junkyard motor, not a marine motor. I'm going to buy a new long block marine motor but I don't know what to get since I don't have the original motor to compare to. There are so many 5.7 options at ATK and S&J! What do I need? They want head and block numbers to confirm the correct motor but I can't provide that. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? Thanks

The difference between an auto 350 and a 'marine' 350 is the head gaskets (non-steel), the core plugs (brass) and the camshaft (more truck than car)... After that, it's just bolt-ons.

Use the block and head numbers you currently have.
