Don S had refered to that but i can't remember the relative thread.
When on plane which part of the outdrive is in the water ?The whole impeller housing, the lower part of the housing or all of it is out of the water? And may somebody tell me what is this hole of the lower part of the housing for? Doesn't the outdrive sucks air from there?

The hole you have the arrow to is only a drain hole.

The water pickup holes on the lower unit is the only thing that has to be under water for the pump to work.
Using your drawing, I have some blue circles drawn on it, is that parts of the old gasket or is it melted plastic from the pump housing. If melted, replace the pump base, you could suck air around it.

Got it. So it is using a clear hose after the pump to check whether or not air is getting into the system. I assume the principle is the same regardless of Volvo, Mercruiser, etc. Thanks for the link!
