I have a 1977 terry 17 1/2 ft bass boat with a mercury 1150 motor. I'm looking for suggestions as to what prop would be good for this set up as the boat didn't have a prop on it when i bought it. I think it should use a 12 3/4 x ? pitch. throw some ideas out to me.

i would start out with a 19 pitch AL prop by Michigan Match and see where your speed and RPM are - if that doesn't put you right where you want to be than that will be your spare but you will then be able to know what you need to get. for example if it runs too low get a 17 pitch, it it runs too high get a 21 pitch. I think that engine would be happy around 5500 rpm give or take a little. We had one when i was a kid - either 73 or 74 - such great memories and that sound was like no other engine. We would shock a lot of boats how fast it would go on our 15' boat.

You have PTT on that motor? If so consider a Turning Point Hustler. They are a pretty good match for what you have. 19" pitch is a good place to start.

FWIW it isn't 19 DEGREE but 19 INCHES of pitch.... otherwise I agree 19" should be close

I have the same motor on my 20 CC and I run a 15" pitch

yes its does have ptt. thanks for the clarification to the inches of pitch. I didn't realize that mistake till after I was looking at some of the suggested props. I'm still learning things in the boating community.

A lot depends on how you load your boat and what you do. I have a 20' deep V that has a '79 115 and came with a 19P prop. When I tested the boat before buying it ran very well with the 19P at WOT of about 5800rpm and 40mph with two people and half tank of gas. Then after it was restored and I added 4 people, full gas, all my fishing gear, three batteries, 4 down riggers, extra 12lb balls, new merc 4stroke 9.9 pro-troller, all the other stuff, it wouldn't get to even 4600. I ended up with a 4 blade 15 pitch to get back up to 5500rpm and maybe low 30's mph. I only use my boat to salmon fish Lake Michigan and don't care much about speed cause its seldom I can run WOT anyway because of the waves. I also have a lot of slip because of the deep V and a lot of weight but the 4 blade helps with that and makes me feel like I have four wheel drive in following seas. I do also agree that a 19P might be a good place to start for your boat, but don't be upset if it isn't right. By the way my 19P is now my spare as someone already suggested. It will get me home in an emergency.
