My neighbor is repowering his Smoker ProMag 161 with an Evinrude 90HP E-Tec. Dealer is bolting the motor on this weekend, and Monday or Tuesday we have sea trials and prop selection.

Dealer with throw in any stainless steel prop I want, but his recommendation is a Viper. The boat is a 16.5-foot aluminum V-hull, with a rather long sloping Canadian-style bow configuration. Loaded weight probably 1150-1200 pounds.

Anyone used a Viper in a similar situation? What pitch? How did it perform? Any alternate recommendations in an SS prop?

Re: Which prop for E-Tec

Make sure the fuel tank is full and have 2 people aboard and start with a 17" prop. I kinda doubt it, but a 19" might work but I'm sure the rpm will be in the lower half of the operating range, and it won't accelerate as well.
