Hey everyone

this will be my first time ever riding and purchasing a PWC.
I'm not worried about it being my first time riding one, I have just read a lot of controversy between the yamahas and seadoo. I originally planned on purchasing a 2013 Seadoo GTR-215 but after reading some posts the Yamaha VXR seems to be right up there.

I'll mostly be riding in salt water, in the bays, which i then read about the seadoo RXT or Yamaha FX HO for ocean use.

What do you guys think on the 4 skis?

I like to cruise but also have a high top-speed that can carve well also.

All 4 are excellent skis. With a few cheap bolt on mods, all will run in the 65 - 70 mph range. The GTR & VXS/R have flatter hull bottoms and won't handle the chop as smoothly as the RXT & FX-HO. SeaDoo has come a long way w/ their superchargers, but they will require a bit more maint. and observation on your part. The supercharged skis will burn a bit more gas. Good luck !!!

HO, bud. Do yourself a favor ,and stay away from any s/c or turbo related skis. Maintenance nightmare and really expensive, if you cant do your own wrenching.

I've had PWC's since 1985--Kawasaki standup, two Sea Doo's (one XP) and now a 2 year old Waverunner VX Cruiser. I had good service out of all but the Sea Doo XP.

For my money, I just prefer the Yamaha's. I'm usually cruising at 30 mph, like most people in the sport. 54-55 mph is fast enough for me. The price was reasonable and I was afraid to move up to another ultra fast machine due to having grandkids that need safety.

The Waverunner VX is by far the best selling PWC in the retail market, and it all comes down to value and durability. Mine is the most trouble free PWC on the market, and we have good Yamaha watercraft dealerships close by for service, when needed.

I agree. My buddy here has a rental business on the lake, and has 12 VX / SHO yamahas. Has 6-GTI's. However, the first 4-seasons, he used all 96-97 gtx/gti, which made him a BOAT-LOAD of $$$. Even though i'd see the for "service", every other week...cant knock the 2-strokes for 500+ hrs, and beat to death.

I wouldn't buy one with a supercharger unless I was wealthy, it was new and with warranty, and I had full intentions of selling it or trading it off before the warranty ran out.

I have rode many waverunners from kawasaki to yamaha and seadoo. I prefer the seadoo's over any of them if you want a good ride with power. I even pull a tube behind mine with the kids. As far as maintnance goes, every one out there needs maintnance. I have had no problems out of my seadoo's and we ride every weekend. When it comes down to the bottom line, only you can make that decision on what you want. Good luck.

Yamaha VX Cruiser,#1 in sales of all pwc's. Seadoo's (BRP) has sold out the line to FourWinns and a few others. If you buy a used seadoo s/c 2007 and older the s/c has ceramic washers under it. If they go bad the can be ingested into the engine and it will be destroyed. Newer ones went to metal.

We've had two Sea Doo's and one Yamaha. The original pair was a close match between Sea Doo and Yamaha. The Yamaha was hands down a problem child.

Never again-another Yamaha.

The Yamaha is gone, the old Sea Doo is still going strong and the newer (2009) Sea Doo (Four Stroke Turbo) is amazing.
