Apologies if I've asked this before, but I'm ready to buy the service manual for my boat's engine. I'm unsure which one I need, though. I have a 2008 5.0L with the TKS carb on it. Manual #24 covers 1998-2001 5.0L with carbs, but the years are wrong. Manual #31 has the right year range (2001+), but seems to only cover Magnum and MPI. I haven't found anything that directly mentions covering a 2008 carbed model.

I just bought manual #41 which covers the TKS carb specifically. Should I just get #24 to cover the engine?

Can someone also confirm that manual #14 is correct for the Alpha One Gen 2 drive that I have?

These are the serial numbers I have printed on the air cleaner cover which I believe to be original with the boat:

Engine: 1A066545
Transom: 1A140082
Drive: 1A209411

For your engine model, the latest manual #31 is merc part number 90-864260T00 while the older manual 31 that will work for the "engine" is 90-864260001. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercury-Mar...anuals_Literature&hash=item3f395de475&vxp=mtr

If you went with the older manual, then manual part #90-864260020 (#37) would be needed to cover the exhaust system for your engine model.
You'd also would have needed manual #41 to cover the carb. Both the TKS carb and the exhaust are now covered in the latest manual.

For the drive, there is a newer version out for manual #14, part number 90-8M0065951. http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Mercury..._Accessories_Gear&hash=item540c8e9630&vxp=mtr

Those serial numbers come up as 1998.
Any serial number after 1998 1/2 will always show up as a 98 model due to Merc stopped using the year as a designated model guide. Merc started using serial number breaks as their model reference points as models used different components, designs, running changes and whatever else they come up with.:D In reality it's still helpful to know the actual year of the engine as even though they may not recognize the year for parts look up it's still helpful to know as for when general changes were made. Even when you talk to someone at the factory. The same now goes for Merc outboards starting in 2006. The OP's 1A0***** numbers were in the 2008 era. I believe merc is now in the 1C****** numbers for 2014.

Good to know. I didn't realize that.
