1992 Mariner V6 150hp
Ser# 0D124111

Replaced water pump with all new components: impeller, housing the whole thing.
Did this with the help of a experienced mechanic. Purchased parts from a local Mercury dealer after giving him the above information. All went well and it works fine. Have since purchased a Seloc manual and was reading about the water pump replacement when something caught my eye.

It said that motors from 50hp thru 200hp had a high volume water pump and it was recognizable by the shape of the housing. My new one looked nothing like this high volume housing.

Do I have the right one installed? Am I in danger of a overheat problem? Any response is appreciated.

Re: which water pump

Well, it begs the obvious question, what did the OLD one look like? I always compare parts before replacing them just to be sure I'm putting in equivalent parts. Been burned too many times...

Re: which water pump

The old one looked like a solid round housing about a inch and a half high. This is the same one I installed. The manual shows the high volume pump housing is funny looking with ridges or vanes on top.

Manuals are sometimes hard to work with.I am a strong beleiver in Factory Original Ones.but I can understand them.Seloc,Clymers, etc, give decent basic knowlege, but have to cover too much in a small book.It will confuse you sometimes.

Sounds like your pump had a plastic housing,a stainless insert, and an impeller about 2" dia.

Seloc is showing you an alternative with a stainless steel housing,no isert, and about 3.5 inch diameter.

Two different pumps, you put in the correct parts.

DHP
