OMC factory alum 15 spine prop 14x21 .
flared out or coning in?
I was so proud of myself getting the ring off an old damaged prop in 1 piece and then popped it onto the good prop with a big BANG!!!
Then I thought..OMG..it's backwards.
But I have another dead prop sitting here and it looks backwards too...cruised ebay and I see both ways...

Coning in. Flare toward the front of the boat.

It doesn't matter a whole lot at speeds anything over idle.

It's been done both ways. Thats how you can tell the difference between an SST I and an SST II OMC prop (although that's not the only difference).

With most performance props these days the wider part is towards the aft of the prop. Although some performance props have no flare, just a straight barrel. Look at Turbo props and the difference between a Lightning and a TXP.

Hey D, I remember my first OMC SS prop back in '72 on a 125. It was teflon coated with a brass diffuser ring going in. All the props I had seen prior to that were Quicksilver and they were one piece flared out.

Took me awhile to get used to it. Prop seemed to run out ok. Just different.

Mark
