Whitch manual is best?

I laid out the $55 for Evinrudes service manual. I'm not impressed with the pictures or some of the directions. I see that Sealoc and Climer also have a manual. Any better manual out there for my '83 E140?

Either Seloc or Clymer will give you the info you need to maintain your motor. They just give the info in a different way. I prefer Seloc over Clymer.

Re: Whitch manual is best?

There is no one manual that does it all. Some are better for certain motors than others. Not all factory manuals are good for the novice because they assume you know certain things.

Between Clymer and Seloc I prefer Seloc. I've found Clymer to be more generic than Seloc...on Johnsons and Mariners anyway. ABOS is definitely the best for pre 80s motors and is out of print but can be found on ebay cheap.

Just be aware that most of them use one description to cover many engine sizes. Look around at your local public library and see which manual has the best info on the area you are working on. I look for detailed exploded diagrams as the first choice. Eventually, you will end up with several to cover it all.

I agree that several is the way to go.
I also was not really impressed with the factory manual. Between the Clymer and the factory manual, I still am confused. I think I'll buy the Seloc to complete my library.

Yeah, I also have them all. Sometimes one shows or tells something better than the other. I do like the model specific Factory Manual for "Important" stuff.

Thank you all.
" I do like the model specific Factory Manual for "Important" stuff.". So... Does this mean I can get a "specific" manual on my '83 140TR?, or are you referring to the general service manual that covers the various motors? Iasked the dealer for a manual for the 140, and I was given the generic service one. Was that a breakdown of cOmuinication?

The factory manuals that I have bought have been semi-specific. They cover more than one model ,but the models are related like a 4 1/2 / 7 1/2 and 40/50.

The one I got was specific to my 1991 70 HP OMC. Well, 60 and 70 HP rudes. But it covers it well. Looks like this:

I like to have the OMC Model Specific Manual and the Parts Manual. One without the other is not nearly as good.

You can get the Seloc and Clymer Manuals here on our host's site. Clymer and Seloc
Or, Get the OMC Manuals here: OMC Model Specific Guides
