I love being on the lake. We swim a while then tube a while then eat then repeat, repeat, repeat.Lately I have noticed how much I enjoy just getting to the lake. I like hooking the boat up, pulling it out of the garage. We make lunch and pack the cooler. I enjoy going down the road pulling the boat while everyone looks enviously. Is it just me or do others enjoy the whole boating experience and not just the time on the water?

I'm with ya...fun fun fun...from start to finish.:D

Heck I love just staring at the boats in the driveway too;)

It is sad to pull out of the launch though and go back to work in the morning.

Well not the finish part because who know with our scheduales when the next time will be. The boat just looks sad sitting in the garage with a cover on her..... I do agree that getting there is just a fun as cruising.

Love it all. Only stress is watching the gas prices go up and up.

Getting there was a blast for me. Heck, it was only 6,500 miles from SC.

Yip, agree 100% - enjoy the prep, the towing, the launch, the retrieval and even cleaning the boat up after each use as much as running it on the water. It is the entire process that I enjoy.

Nice! I've always wanted to make that drive. I grew up in Anchorage and currently live in Jersey. I still go back and do some fishing here and there, but I'd like to run across the country.

How'd the tranny do in that thing on such a trip?

Every Part of Boating is fun for me except the Nerves kick in when Launching a Retrieving. Even Cleaning the Boat is fun.

Maybe because I'm still a newbee.

Yep same here. I used to love the process as a kid when the folks would pack up the truck, camper and the boat for some far away destination. My sister and I would ride in the camper and talk for hours. It's nice to get your mind into vacation mode and start to leave all your stresses behind for a week. The prep and drive are the start of that. It's fun to now watch my kids get excited and continue it all with the next generation. I have however now become sick of the boat clean up after the trip.

Ditto here. Luckily I don't have to do it often, but I really dislike the towing/launching/retrieving thing.

All the rest is great :)

I have about 2 weeks before I take off with my dad, my son, and some friends for our trek up to Sioux Narrows on Lake of the Woods. It's about 850 miles and I love the trip up there, just not as much as actually getting out on the lake. Now, that 850 mile drive to get back home is what sucks. :D

Great fun and happiness are not destinations in life. They are a way of traveling.

Re: Who likes going as much as being there?

I am a finally getting sick of the get ready and trailering.

I am 50, been doing this since I was 25. We haul 250+ miles each way, and I used to love that part. I liked getting ready, and I even liked cleaning up.

Now, I pretty much like the launch part and the boating part. I still get excited as I launch, and I have always liked that part. Retrieving just means more trailering and going home :(

Couldn't have said it better. The hour drive to the water is a dreamy bliss! The driver home however...

Re: Who likes going as much as being there?

I disagree. I wetslip our big boat, but trailer jet skis and smaller boats. I HATE the trailer/dunk/retrieve routine. Get all sweaty....young kids may be cranky at the end of the day etc.

I love being in a slip - the moment I am IN the floating boat I am happy. In fact, there are times when I go down to the boat, sometimes overnight, and never leave the marina. It is our getaway place, regardless of exact activity. That being said - my fav is a slow cruise. When the kids are grown up I will have a trawler. 10mph is a fine max for me.

But I will keep the jetski forever :)

The van w/ V10 and Torqshift tranny has been flawless. We bought her new in '05 and now have about 100,000 miles. We like to say we've only driven it 9 times cause it's always cross country.

Solo launch/retrieve couldn't be easier -- never get my feet wet.
