Who makes top quality cruisers?

Afternoon all,

So I am looking to step it up into a 28-32' cruiser, and am looking to find out what manufacturers produce the best quality. Moreover, I understand that a lot can come down to personal preference, but what is considered the 'cat's ***' and what is low end. My understanding is that Sea Ray would be near the top, and Bayliner/Maxum would be at the low end?

Where does Doral, Silverton, Rinker etc come into the picture? Again, i'm looking to purchase a 28-32'...

What year? Strictly express cruisers? Sea ray does get a lot if praise but I'd be hard to call them the be all end all. Formula makes a nice cruiser, Tiara makes a nice cruiser/fishing boat, the others you listed would be good too.

Are you looking at a new boat or a used one. Like so many people say, a used boat is only as good as it's upkeep so what may have been a top of the line boat when new may now be worse than an entry level boat that was taken care of. New or used, so much of "liking" a boat is personal preference that you need to get out and look at the layouts and the power/drive and find what you like.

I would check out Carver, Trojan, Viking, Egg Harbor just to name a few.

I wouldn't consider Searay near the top. Bayliner, Searay and Maxum are all built by the same company. It's like saying Ford/Lincoln/Mercury.

comparing my 89 wellcraft to my buddy's 88 searay.... the welly is IMHO built better ..... another friend has a regal of about the same year... some things about it are great but others seem shoddy.....

I can find several things about mine that I don't like as far as layout and design (tho, admittedly, I'm picky) but build quality is very good.

Honestly I would say for a top of the line cruiser I would look into a Carver.

This is kinda like asking who makes the best car. I am a BMW guy but if I had to choose between a 5 year old BMW 750 with 75K miles that has never been serviced vs a new Hyundai Genesis it would be the Hyundai hands down. When I went from a bowrider to a cruiser I am amazed at how much more time it takes due to the additional systems on the boat and I can see how someone could buy a cruiser and loose interest due to the amount of time and money it takes to keep everything in ship shape.

Impossible question to give a qualified answer to. Everyone who makes a cruiser makes one that could be considered top quality. Not enough information in the OP's question.

I am a BMW guy but if I had to choose between a 5 year old BMW 750 with 75K miles that has never been serviced vs a new Hyundai Genesis it would be the Hyundai hands down. I'd take the BMW hands down.... I LOVE my 01 330 ci vert

You haven't said weather new used or type of cruiser. Express or weekend type ? Size? How many do you plan on hauling around. Social gatherings. Trailing or slipping. There is a whole lot of info needed.

Had a SeaRay and don't think they are anymore top end then some others in there class. Just more expensive because of the name( good marketing). Comparing apples to apples FourWinns gives you more for your money. Regal, Monteray, Crusier, Formula = good boat for the money. There are better boats for the money then SeaRay

Lincoln being high end, ford mid grade... there is a difference.

Yep, as you have seen with your 310 Silverton Express, Regal 2760 Commodore shopping lately.

So which one of these two is "top quality " ??

Between Silverton and Regal I would say that Silverton edges ahead for overall quality - but definitely in the same ball park. With regards to a Searay vs. Bayliner in the same class of boat, would anyone ever even hesitate on this?
